About Our Medical Spanish Tutoring Program
Our one-to-one medical Spanish tutoring pairs you with a native-speaking instructor who tailors every session to your clinical specialty. Each hour focuses on the vocabulary, grammar, and phrases you'll actually use with patients — history-taking, explaining diagnoses, discharge instructions, and bedside rapport.
The program is designed by the team behind Medical Electives Peru, who have run medical Spanish immersion programs since 2011, and earns 10 AAFP-accredited CME credits.
How Tutoring Complements the Self-Paced Course
Most students pair tutoring with our online medical Spanish course. The course builds vocabulary, grammar, and listening across 26 clinical modules; tutoring puts that foundation into live practice with a real tutor. You get pronunciation correction, grammar feedback, and role-plays tailored to your specialty.
New to the program? Start with the Complete Bundle (26 medical + 25 grammar modules, 38.25 CME) and add tutoring once you've worked through the first few modules.
Who This Program Is For
- Physicians who see Spanish-speaking patients and want to reduce reliance on interpreters
- Nurses and nurse practitioners needing bedside Spanish for assessments, education, and discharge teaching
- PAs, residents, and medical students preparing for clinical rotations in underserved communities
- Healthcare professionals planning international medical missions or electives
- Clinicians who tried group classes and want a faster, more personalized path
What a Typical Session Looks Like
Each 60-minute session is split between focused instruction and live role-play. You'll warm up in Spanish, work through a grammar point or vocabulary set tied to your specialty, then rehearse real clinical scenarios — taking a chief complaint, explaining a diagnosis, or counseling a patient — with your tutor correcting you in real time.
No two sessions are the same. A pediatrician might focus on caregivers and milestones; an ER physician on triage questions and pain scales; a nurse practitioner on chronic disease education.
Tutoring vs. Apps, Groups, and Immersion
Apps, group classes, and immersion trips each have value — but only tutoring gives you a full hour of your clinical Spanish with a native speaker correcting your mistakes as you make them. A tutor also flags regional variations that apps miss: in Mexico patients often say "el doctor," while in Argentina "el médico de cabecera" is more natural for a primary care physician.
For most learners, pairing the self-paced Medical Spanish course with tutoring is the fastest path to confident patient communication.
About Your Tutors
All tutors are native Spanish speakers based in Latin America, screened for both language teaching experience and medical context. Most have coached visiting clinicians through real hospital and clinic rotations in Peru, so they understand what you need to say — and what patients are likely to say back.
Sessions are taught primarily in Spanish from day one, with English used only to clarify grammar. This immersion-first approach targets listening comprehension, the biggest barrier most clinicians face in real patient encounters.
